The Power Plant Awards Banquet is a must-attend industry gathering that recognizes on the key
technologies and developments for power generation plants. POWER magazine and PRB Coal Users’
Group award recipients are recognized during this special event. The Annual Awards Dinner will
be held at the Sheraton Inner Harbor’s Chesapeake Ballroom in Baltimore. Join us as we recognize
exemplary power plants—and connect with your peers from power plants across the world.
The featured speaker will be Fred Haise. Haise, portrayed by actor Bill Paxton in the blockbuster
Ron Howard fi lm, Apollo 13, served as the lunar module pilot during the ill-fated 1970 space mission;
was backup crew for the Apollo 8, 11, and 16 missions; fl ew fi ve fl ights as the commander of the
Space Shuttle Enterprise; and has logged 9,100 hours of fl ying time in over eighty types of aircraft.
Fred Haise has been a U.S. Marine Corps fi ghter pilot and flight instructor and served with the U.S.
Air Force. Haise began a 20-year NASA career as an aeronautical research pilot and recently retired
as president of Northrop Grumman Technical Services. His many awards include the Presidential
Medal of Freedom, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Haley Astronautics
Award, the General Thomas D. White Space Trophy, the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, the
NASA Exceptional Service Award, and the NASA Special Achievement Award.
