Panelist Bios:

Jay Godfrey

Managing Director of Renewable Energy
American Electric Power

Mr. Godfrey has over Fourteen years of experience in the renewable energy sector.

Mr. Godfrey joined American Electric Power in 2002 and currently serves as Managing Director of Renewable Energy.   Responsibilities have included wind project financing, asset management, renewable energy purchase agreements, wind project development and site acquisition, structured carbon offset transactions and providing expert testimony in related regulatory cases.

Prior to his work with AEP, Mr. Godfrey served for seven years in a number of roles, including Director of Project Finance, for wind turbine manufacturer / independent wind energy project developer Enron Wind Corp.

Mr. Godfrey has also previously served as Controller for two different publicly held companies outside of the energy sector.  Mr. Godfrey graduated from California State University, Chico with a B.S. in Finance, holds an M.B.A degree from National University.  He has also serves on the Board of Directors of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).

Mike Sheriff graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.  He earned a Master of Business Administration with High Honor from Oklahoma City University. He has worked thirty-five years for OG&E in various capacities in the Power Delivery, Corporate Marketing, Business Intelligence, Corporate Planning and Power Supply business lines.  Mike was technical lead in negotiating Centennial Wind contract, and was project manager in it construction. The project was constructed on-time and under budget.  Over the last several years Mr. Sheriff has served as project manager or lead negotiator on various renewable energy projects totaling in excess of $500 million for OG&E Electric Services. Mike has met with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission staff as a technical expert on numerous wind energy-related topics. Mike is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Oklahoma and Arkansas, a certified Project Management Professional, a member of the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Renewable Energy Council, a member of Wind Turbine Technology Academic Program Advisory Committee for OSU-OKC, and a Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Mike is married to Sherrel Sheriff and has three children.   In his spare time is a he read and studies the Civil War and is a living history docent with Oklahoma History Center, with areas of expertise being the Civil War and early Oklahoma history.

Sarah Kurtz obtained her PhD in 1985 from Harvard University.  She has worked at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, in Golden, CO, ever since then.  She is best known for her contributions to developing multijunction, GaInP/GaAs solar cells and for supporting the Concentrator Photovoltaic industry.  Currently, she is managing the Reliability Group at NREL.

Mr. Choudhry is Strategic Marketing Program Manager for GE Energy’s Global Marketing team responsible for market analysis of the various power generation and CO2 capture technologies. He has over 35 years experience in coal utilization for power generation, gasification applications, and other applications. He is a mechanical engineer with a M.S. in Mineral Processing from Penn State.

His earlier assignments at GE included Coal Applications Program Manager for developing applications for GE’s products and services in coal mining and metals industries. His role also including installation of fuel usage and performance optimization software solutions for coal and gas fired utility customers. Prior to acquisition by GE, he was Vice President at Praxis Engineers, Inc. responsible for energy R&D and demonstration projects including development and installation of optimization software solutions for coal-fired power plants. 

Prior to joining Praxis, Mr. Choudhry was Principal Process Engineer with Fluor Corp. responsible for process design and engineering for a wide variety of projects such as coal gasification feed preparation and residue management, coal slurry transportation and coal slurry fuels. He also managed several feasibility studies worldwide for copper, gold and other mineral projects.

Angela Neville has been covering environmental issues related to the energy sector and other industrial sectors since 1995.  She served as the editorial director of Environmental Protection and Water & Wastewater News (formerly Water & Wastewater Products) magazines from 1995 through 2007.  These publications covered a broad range of legal and technical issues related to industrial pollution control, including air quality, water quality, and solid and hazardous waste management. 

Angela is the winner of one national award and four regional awards for editorial excellence from the American Society of Business Publication Editors from 1999 through 2007 for her signed columns about environmental law topics.

Angela has bachelors’ degrees in both journalism (magazine sequence) and English and a law degree from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.  She also is a licensed Texas lawyer.  Currently, she’s a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association, and the national Energy Bar Association.
